If you’ve ever asked yourself where all the birds went after
Hitchcock finished filming – it’s Liberty Island. The seagulls here are EVIL. I
just helped one free itself from under a chair and he tried to peck my hand off,
and then peck a whole lot of other seagulls as soon as he was free.
The weather is so nice today – uncharacteristically so for this time of the year according to
one of the locals in my dorm. Why is a local staying in a youth hostel? It’s got Linda Maloney written all over it…
I was worried at first that it wasn’t going to be great – it
was so windy on the ferry I thought we were going to catch a glimpse of
Liberty’s legs – but it’s calmed down, and now there’s just a slight breeze
keeping the heat evenly distributed. There are surprisingly few people here
too, especially considering it’s a Sunday, so that’s always nice.
Yesterday, I did the Empire State Building which I enjoyed more
for its interior than the view from the top. It was all beautiful and art-decoey and everything was shiny. In the afternoon I found a bowling ball man in times square dancing around advertising an
alley somewhere, and for some reason I couldn’t stop laughing, which was
probably nice for him because I’d say that most people had just been kicking
the side of him that didn’t have eyeholes.
The last two nights I’ve promised myself I’d go out and then not followed through cos I’ve been so burnt out, but tonight I’m probably going to head in with a girl from
jolly london town – she says innit after everything and laughs more than she
talks so it should be fun. I’m still bummed I missed out on Iron and Wine.
Anyway, I’m about to head over to Wall Street now to get a few inappropriate photos of the
bull and to see if I can catch a glimpse of Michael Douglas making Wall Street
3: Money never sleeps, but moviegoers do.
